Pretty Japanese high school girl Momo used to be in love with Toji, but Toji was blackmailed into breaking off their romance by Momo's spiteful and deceitful rival Sae. Now Momo loves the kind bad boy Kiley, who stood by her through all the trials with Sae and exposed Sae's manipulative ways. This is the fourth volume (of 11) of a sequel to the original eight-volume "Peach Girl" series, continuing the original's unpredictable and involving story line. After the story went off the rails somewhat toward the end of the first series, this volume returns squarely to teen emotional drama, as Kiley confesses that he's still deeply in love with his old tutor, Misao, and Toji reappears to comfort Momo. This series is definitely aimed at teen girls, but Ueda's writing and artwork are strong enough to attract older readers of both genders as well. The strong emotions in this volume bring out some of Ueda's best artwork, which blends excellent realistic detail with good use of traditional expressionistic manga devices. The series is rated "Age 13+," but sexual situations (including attempted rapes and a bit of S&M) should raise that figure by a year or two. Recommended for all collections.
