The Swallows and Amazons are sailing with Nancy and Peggy's Uncle Jim (better known as Captain Flint) when their hired deckhand tells them a tale of his younger days - a tale to set pulses racing and hopes shooting sky high. Soon their boat is on its way to a Caribbean treasure hunt and they find themselves up against shark, storm, earthquake - and the vilest pirate who ever eavesdropped at a porthole.

A classic from the collection, Peter Duck is that glorius mix of the beleivable and the unbeleivable, with just as much detail given to describe the mundane things such as what they eat and the way that the waves flow under the bow of the ship as there is to the unlikely- pirate attacks and killer crabs. One of the best things about this book, however, is that it doesn't TRY to be real. It is a story, told by the characters of a story. Purely a figment of imaginary figmentations imagination. A delightful concept, beautifully pulled off and an excellent story.
