About the Author

Rafael Cortés was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the John Hopkins University in Baltimore, and studied in Germany as a Fulbright Scholar. He was for thirteen years the Chairman of the Piano Department at the prestigious Turtle Bay Music School in New York. His essays on music have been published by the Clavier magazine. He currently lives and teaches in New York, where he is also a judge for many piano competitions.
