Hello! I'm Akirah Robinson. And when women forget how brave their hearts are, I'm here to remind them. It was many years before I realized how brave my own heart is. I found grieving the end of an abusive relationship to be extremely challenging and often times sought comfort from alcohol or men to avoid my pain. One day I accepted my need to stop numbing myself, for the sake of my sanity and others'. Healing in such a painful and beautiful way eventually uncovered for me a passion to help other women believe in their brave hearts and seek healthy relationships as a result. This is why I write about relationships and other things that would have helped me back then, as I healed towards self-love. I am a licensed social worker which basically means is that I rock at helping people. While in graduate school, I gained several years of experience counseling survivors of domestic violence. In addition to completing forty hours of domestic violence training for certified advocates, I have also completed forty hours of crisis intervention training. All of this experience comes in handy when I coach women who are trying to move forward after a rough breakup. As a relationship writer, my work has been featured on the Huffington Post, Glamour.com, and Tiny Buddha. My first book, "Respected: How One Word Can Change More Than Just Your Love Life" released in November 2014. My handsome husband owns a restaurant, which is convenient because I get hungry a lot. Together we live in Pittsburgh with our mischievous dog, Walker, who enjoys chewing on all our belongings. We spoil him anyway.
