Summer 2007
Knitwear designer Charlene Schurch has welcomed many a sock knitter into the fold with her masterful little Sensational Knitted Socks. In few that 100 pages, she shows how to knit socks on four or five double-pointed needles or two circular needles, from the top down and the toe up. The pattern section is organized by the type of stitch pattern: four-stitch ribbing patterns; five-, six-, eight-, and twelve-stitch pattern repeats; cabled patterns; chevron patterns (for self-striping yarns); Fair Isle patterns; four-stitch reticulated patterns; and mosaic patterns. She begins each section with a basic sock structure then lets you choose the specific stitch pattern (from an illustrated list). In all, I counted sixty-eight possible sock patterns, not to mention many techniques, extensive sizing charts, and tips on measuring, adjusting, and customizing.
