The year is 1173. King Henry's efforts to crush his rebellious sons ignite bloody border skirmishes throughout the land. Yet it is a time of triumph for mercenary Josceline de Gael, bastard son of the king's most trusted ally. Victorious on the battlefield, de Gael suffers sweet defeat when his heart is conquered by the lovely Linnet de Montsorrel. But their love will find its greatest challenge as the torments of jealousy, suspicion, pride - and an enemy from beyond the grave - threaten all they hold dear.

'The descriptions and details of 12th century England jump off the page and give it a here and now reality' - reader review on 'This book has a great period feel. Historical fiction at the best it can be. Elizabeth Chadwick writes with such realism and enthusiasm that you are dragged into the story and every detail of 12th century Britain is realistic. She has a stunning grasp on her subject matter being a member of Regia Anglorum - a medieval re-enatment society and this book is equally good as all her other books. I reccomend reading this if you love historical fiction with a touch of romance.
