For the intended reader, the repetition of a corner globe illustration with Africa highlighted [on most upper left-hand side pages] leads to recognition of the continent on future maps and globes. Creamy warm orange pages with overlays of softened longitude and latitude lines visually support the fact that Africa is an important continent on our earth. This series includes facts about each continent--the climate, geography, plant and animal life, people, as well as the continent's relationship to the world. At the beginning of each book is a list of quick facts as well as a political map. Boldfaced vocabulary words are defined at the bottom of the page for easy reference, and photographs illustrate the text. Physical maps illustrate the geographical information and population maps show the demographic distribution. The information in each book provides the reader with a complete overview of the continent. Teachers can use these attractive, information-packed books for instruction and older students can use them for research. The series will be a staple for elementary school libraries, and would also be helpful for lower level middle school readers because the information is written in a clear, concise manner.
