Station Hunting on the Warrego

Excerpt from Station Hunting on the Warrego: Australia, at the Valley of the Popran; And Other Poems Some of the poems in this volume were first published in certain period icals some time prior to Henry Kendall's death. The following brief ex tracts are taken from letters by Kendall, and show his opinion of the poems he refers to. Of Station Hunting he says The poem as a wh ile, is a very fine one far and away the best thing of the kind I have seen from your pen. There can be no mistake about the cavern simile. Indeed I have no hesitation in saying that there are few finer things than it in the language. If you dig up more gold of this kind, there need be no fear as to your future position in the world of letters. Of the Valley of the Popram he says, It is one of the most exquisite lyrics you have writ ten. Nothing can be the bit about the bell-birds, and the love ly verse beginning Thus hedged &e. I look upon it as one of the bright est lyrics that ever emanated from an Australian pen. Of the Quid Pro Quo he says - It is full of outh and strength it is good wonderfully good: - Of the Dream ithin a Dream, and The Crown of Life he says Both lyrics are full of beauty, of Can this be Love? He says They are remarkably beautiful. Before I saw your name I was struck by the rare loveliness of the thing. Of the writer he says - You are an authentic singer. T h: immaculate fire is in you, and it will glorify you in time. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
