COLIN MAGGS is one of the country's foremost railway historians and has written over one hundred books. In 1993 he received the MBE for services to railway history. His other books include A History of the Great Western Railway ('Thoroughly researched and well written... a very readable account of God's Wonderful Railway' BBC Who Do You Think You Are Magazine) and The Train Driver's Manual. He is currently writing a new biography of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, also for Amberley. He lives in Bath.
