Reviews

"The difficulty of being different is given humorous treatment in this picture book by a respected children's writer. The trouble with Ben (an unacknowledged bear) is that he irritates his human classmates, teacher and principal when he climbs trees and swats bees. Encouraged to fit in by his bear parents, Ben is miserable drinking at water fountains, playing in shoes, and paying attention in school. Sad to be misunderstood, but happy to finally be himself, Ben decides to concentrate on those qualities that make him special. Polisar's rhythmically paced text is complemented by David Clark's wildly exaggerated, energetic drawings." --Booklist, American Library Association
