Love this series of the stoneville family. Great fun

I started reading this book thinking that I would get a fluffy romantic comedy. What I got instead a story with more emotional depth than I expected.

For years Oliver Sharpe the Marquess of Stoneville has been haunted by the specter of the his parent's violent deaths. Convinced that he was somehow responsible for their deaths,he spends years scandalizing society with his exploits. When his grandmother Hester Plumtree, the keeper of the family purse strings decides to force him and and his scandalous siblings into marriage he comes up with a plan to thwart her.At a brothel where he plans to hire a "lady of the evening" to pose as his fiance he encounters Miss Maria Butterfield,an American shipping heiress in need of some rescuing. In return for his help he demands that she pose as fiance...

Somehow I expected a lighter read from Sabrina Jeffries.Oliver makes a brooding hero with a dark secret in his past, while Maria makes a sweet "saving grace". I thought it was kind of funny that she actually liked living in his crumbling manor and the conversations they had about his alter ego Lord Rockton was quite funny.
