The peaceful lives of the inhabitants of Turnham Malpas are disrupted when a famous actor comes to stay to recuperate from illness. Before long he is bored by village life and when he meets Caroline, the Rector's wife, he is instantly attracted to her. He agrees to direct and star in a play with the villagers as his supporting cast and Caroline as his leading lady...When Peter, Caroline's husband, realises the attraction between her and Hugo goes beyond the scenes on stage, he has to use all his powers of patience and diplomacy as he tries to contain a potentially heartbreaking situation.

I loved it great read well worth a read I sent for this book from england as I live in australia
and her books are hard to get here I started off with book one and now have the whole series I am working my way through them so far I am very happy. The stories of the villagers flow from book to book I could not wait to finish one and then start on the next one all the gossip and scandals of their daily lives and what happens to each of them. Hope you find them just as great as I did.

I really enjoy Rebecca Shaw's books, and returning to the village of Turnham Malpas was just like visiting old friends. Dr Caroline (the rector's wife) seems to be having a midlife crisis - despite having a lovely husband and children, she's seeking more in her life. Caroline has recently recovered from a health scare and, feeling better, thinks about returning part-time to medical practice. However, a well-known actor comes for a short stay in the village, and events unfold that distract Caroline from returning to her profession. The actor's arrival doesn't just impact on the residents of the rectory, but the whole village. If the villagers aren't personally involved in the turmoil, you can be sure that events provides plenty of gossip in the local shop or on the street. Most enjoyable.

Further tales from Turnham Malpas. Rebecca Shaw's villages come to life in your hands. These are fantastic, well written stories, the Barleybridge ones set in a Vet clinic and small village, and the Turnham Malpas ones set in a small village. Sensitively written, you feel like you are really there. The cahracters seem real, and you can't wait for the next one.
