Reviews

"MacDonald and LaBarre, authors of "New England Knits" (2009) and the e-book "Wool Book One," have put together a book of original hat-pattern designs and instructions. The size of the projects allows for 'near instant gratification' and makes for portable opportunities to try out new techniques and yarns. Of course, they make great gifts, too. The book includes 25 patterns by 19 designers, and the authors. The hats are cute, clever, fun, fashionable--all with texture, character, and whimsy. Almost all of the projects are four pages, with instructions, tips, and techniques, and featuring multiple photos of the hats modeled by men and women. Projects are not assigned skill levels, perhaps because they are 'weekend' projects. The table of contents lists the designer and has small pictures of each project for easy reference. Knitting techniques with illustrations follow the projects. Dusty autumn pastel page backgrounds help increase page browsability." -- "Lani Smith, Booklist" "W Got a few hours to spare? Then you'll need a copy of this fab book! The 25 head coverings (in an array of styles) are all designed to be knitted in a weekend, so they're perfect projects for short trips away, winter weekends hibernating at home or just when you're taking breaks from larger projects. This all-in-one resource includes hats for all skill levels, using cables, lace, colour and texture.-Knit Today A podcast review from www.aplayfulday.blogspot.co.uk: There are some fantastic designs in here, so many that I know that I'm going to use this book time and time and time again because all the designs are so different. There's a good range of yarns, there's a good range of different weights and different techniques, again it's a good learning book. I love that kind of knitting book, I find use it more, even if it's just to go and check techniques. I'm kind of learning that the books I invest in now need to offer me not just fantastic patterns, that's usually what you buy them for, but also something that you can use as a kind of reference guide. I'm really enjoying that aspect of it. So I thought what I'd do is, I'd share a few of my favourite designs. There are 25 and I could easily talk about all 25 because I don't think there's a design in here that I wouldn't knit, because they're all very wearable and very easy to follow as well.
