This text book provides a concise and straightforward introductory course focused on learning to read and write in Latin. Each chapter concisely introduces and explains points of gramma and translation, expanding upon the last chapter in a smooth transition. These instructions assist the student's understanding of the Latin language as coming to it with no previous study. By explaining each matter individually, you are taught how to approach translation systematically; the only way succeed with a language not in common use, excepting Christianity.

This book makes learning Latin painful to say the least. It makes such a rich language and culture into a formulatic mental process, reminding me of the pain of math because it felt like I was doing equations. The reading goes from "see spot run" to complex texts by Virgil quite quickly, leaving most beginners in the dust. I have heard from friends that they preferred the text "Ecco Romani" but have no personally used the book. I would not recommend this book for the faint of heart nor even the diehards. You reeeally need to want to learn Latin to use this book. Be prepared to want to throw the book across the room but it does feel good when you do get these complex texts down (the answers are in the back thank God!). I think it would be well suited for those that just need to review, however.
