This book is an absolute gem! Who could resist a book that opens "The year began with lunch." ?
This type of autobiographical works is rarely done well, but when, like this one, it does work, you have a friend on your book shelf for life. It achieves exactly the right note of humour, both at the author's expense, and the expense of those around him.
So if you like hearing about good food, and other people's domestic frustrations, read, enjoy and grow envious.
If you don't (like the friend who gave this book to me to try, on the grounds that she found as dull as ****) try something different.
