Toukiden: The Age of Demons was a firm hit with PlayStation Vita owners, but developer Omega Force has upped the ante with this follow-up (but not quite sequel) to the original. Toukiden: Kiwami packs in not only the entirity of the first game, but a slew of new chapters and gameplay tweaks to boot.
In the world of Toukiden demons (Oni) have always lurked in the shadows. But where the oni have been, a secret caste of warriors, the Slayers, have been there to fight them. A cataclysmic event called the Awakening has tipped the scales, however, and rifts in time and space have started pouring the demons forth into the world.
The game starts eight years after the Awakening with a newly trained Slayer from the the village of Utakata (aka you, the player). You need to complete missions, building relationships with other Slayers and rescuing the trapped souls of other heroes in order to strengthen the abilities of your weapons.
As you'd expect from Omega Force, the studio behind many of the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors games, Toukiden: Kiwami focuses on big, over the top action game, though this time the focus is on hunting the Oni, giving it something in common with the Monster Hunter series.
Because four fearsome warriors are one, the game features a multiplayer mode in which up to four players can team up to take down monsters.
Players of the Kiwami release also get the benefit of a host of new content, including twice the number of demons, two new characters, an extended story and new equipment!
