In order to obtain the protein concentrates, the plant grains are finely ground. Once in their flour like form, they are subjected to an enzymatic process, which first solubilizes the protein by adding enzymes and lowering the pH. The resulting protein fractions are ultrafiltered and dried to create the protein powder. This process allows the protein powder to be created using water, heat, pressure and pH balance. There are no added solvents throughout the entire process.
"Natural flavouring" is created through a spray drying process, where plant derivatives (vanilla beans & cocoa beans) are turned into steam and rapidly dried with 1 or more other "carriers" which allow them to turn to a powder form that can be blended with the protein powder. The main carrier for the flavouring components in the veg protein is maltodextrin.
All of the Natural Flavourings used in Spring of Life branded products are compliant with the definition of "natural" as per the FDA's Code of Federal Regulations Chapter 21, 101.22(a)(3)
