Basic Moves teaches body isolations--head, arms, shoulders, ribcage, and hips--that are incorporated into dance movements. It'is a class of basic belly-dancing moves and your abs and hips will certainly get a workout from all that rib-pushing and hip-rolling action. "Fat Burning" is a belly-dance-inspired cardio workout done barefoot. The routine builds from simple foot movements that establish rhythm to more intense moves with hops and jumps. Don't expect your belly to do the dancing in this video--the legs and feet do all the work here, except for some hip moves during the cool down.

Neena and Veena present themselves well, and leave the narration/instruction to voiceover, while concentrating on presenting the moves as clearly. It's a workout rather than instruction like their "Basic Dance" video. "Basic Moves" starts with a warmup that leads you gradually into more strenuous activity. It's not as good as taking a class, but it's a great supplement to those classes for someone like me, who needs to be lead through the warmup and workout.
"Fat Burning" is a much harder session and it's made up of exercise moves rather than dancing. It's not good if you have weak knees or ankles. Also, wear a sports bra for this!

These were originally released on two separate videos, so this DVD is great value.
Basic Moves is a beginners' workout consisting of belly dance moves. I think it is better for those who have either used their "Basic Dance" DVD from their "Discover Bellydance" series (it is more instructional) or are taking beginners' classes. It's a good workout to get your muscles working, but without getting all sweaty.
Though the "Basic Moves" part does teach some belly dance moves, the moves used in "Fat Burning" are mostly just exercise moves. It involves a lot of bouncing, hopping etc. so if you have bad knees or ankles you may want to give it a miss or talk to your doctor before trying it. You'll also want to wear a sports bra! It's a lot harder than Basic Moves.
