Synopsis

Micah Magena is sitting on a powder keg and doesnt know it. Hes a sergeant in South Africas police force, an unquestioning support of the powers that be. But the strife tearing at the fabric of 1980 South Africa is about to rip Micahs own world violently apart. His son is waking up to the fact that the system of apartheid is evil and Micahs is part of that system. Morgan Freemans highly charged directorial debut, Bolpha is a Zulu word for meaning to arrest or to detain. For the oppressive regime, its an act of empowerment. For the swelling crowds of activists, its an outraged cry of protest, a cry whose real world impact is still felt today.
