Vincent (Tom Cruise) is a cool, calculating contract killer at the top of his game. Max (Jamie Foxx) is a cabbie with big dreams and no results. On this fateful night, Max has to transport Vincent on his next job one night, five stops, five hits and a getaway. Thrown together, their lives in collision neither man will ever be the same again.

Synopsis

Max has lived a mundane life as a cab driver for twelve years. The faces have come and gone from his rear-view mirror: people and places he's long since forgotten--until tonight. Vincent is a contract killer. When an off-shore narco-trafficking cartel learns that they're about to be indicted by a federal grand jury, they mount an operation to identify and kill the key witness, and the last stage is tonight. It is on this very night that Vincent has arrived--and five bodies are supposed to fall. Circumstances cause Vincent to hijack Max' taxicab, and Max becomes collateral--an expendable person who's in the wrong place at the wrong time. Through the night, Vincent forces Max to drive him to each assigned destination. And as the L.A.P.D. and F.B.I. race to intercept them, Max and Vincent's survival become dependent on each other, in ways neither would have imagined.

The acting is superb. Tom Cruise, regardless of religious affiliation, does an excellent job as a hitman who has taken a ride with Jamie Foxx, a cab driver, who is actually being taken on a ride of his own. Jamie Foxx does a great job as a bewildered and frightened cab driver who knows he will be held accountable (at some point) for the actions of his client. The interplay between the two actors is great, and the performances are more than convincing.
The plot is pretty original, though it is moderately predictable. The writing is above average, and the movie is funny at times--if you like morbid humor anyway. It should be remembered that the movie isn't supposed to be a funny movie.
While the messages of the movie are a little presumptuous at times, the movie can pull it off by being a good enough movie for me to take it seriously.

This is definitely a return to form for Michael Mann - and the film that showed that Jaimmie Foxx can act, particularly as he shares a lot of screen time with heavy weight Tom Cruise, who plays a bad guy assassin with panache and credibility. A highly entertaining thriller that has Foxx's cab driver tied up with Cruise's assassin whose out doing hits...

This is Tom Cruise in a very different role - a man on a mission. I quite enjoyed watching this movie develop from the start. Watching this oridinary tax driver's life turn upside down. Should he turn Cruise in? Should he just sit by and carry on as though nothing is happening? This is a good watch. If you're not a Cruise fan you might find yourself enjoying this movie as this is a role like none you've seen him in previously.

Micheal Mann returns to form with this mean and elegantly lean night time thriller about an idealistic taxi driver who finds himself chauffering a hit man on his rounds. The two men bounce off each other before locking into a battle of wills. Style is key and the acting is surprisingly good.
