The Cry Of The Owl is a taut psychological thriller based on the novel by suspense master Patricia Highsmith (Strangers On A Train The Talented MR Ripley). Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum Cinderella Man) plays Robert Forester a successful architect who moves from New York to the small Rocky Mountain town of Harmony to escape a nasty divorce and his ex-wife. He soon finds himself infatuated with the domestic life of a local Jenny Thierolf (Julia Stiles - The Bourne Trilogy 10 Things I Hate About You) and watches her from outside her bedroom window. Robert's voyeurism leads to an affair with Jenny after she catches him spying on her. Instead of reporting him to the police she invites him into her home and soon starts to feel a growing attraction to him. Their relationship has dire consequences when Jenny's boyfriend Greg finds out about the affair. Greg makes it his mission to destroy Robert. Greg confronts Robert which leads to a fight along-side a river. Although beaten to a pulp Robert manages to get one good hit in and leaves an unconscious Greg lying at the river's edge. When Greg's body cannot be found the town thinks that Robert has killed him. With the evidence stacking up against him and his ex-wife arriving to denounce him Robert feels the noose begin to tighten. With a nightmarish logic the world closes in on him until seems he has nowhere left to run.
