It is rush hour in Manhattan and commuters are making slow progress through the Hudson tunnel. When an outlaw gang crashes its car into a lorry carrying toxic waste, the resulting explosion seals off both ends of the tunnel, and a motley group of passengers find themselves stranded. Threatened by toxic fumes, fire and the imminent collapse of the tunnel, their only hope is former Emergency Medical Services Chief, Kit Latura (Sylvester Stallone), who risks his life to get the disparate, squabbling group to safety.

Rob Cohen directs and Sylvester Stallone stars in this urban underwater disaster drama with big-bang special effects by Industrial Light & Magic. An accidental explosion rips through a jammed commuter tunnel beneath the Hudson River between Manhattan and New Jersey, sealing off both ends and trapping a diverse band of survivors inside. A disgraced former emergency medical services chief (Stallone) manages to reach them and then struggles through fire, noxious gases, explosions, collapsing walls, massive flooding and rats to lead them to daylight. Daylight co-stars Amy Brenneman, Viggo Mortensen, Dan Hedaya, Jay O. Sanders, Karen Young, Claire Bloom and Vanessa Bell Calloway. Director Cohen works again with Executive Producer Raffaella De Laurentiis, with whom he made Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story and Dragonheart.

I love this movie even though it spawned my phobia of tunnels. Sylvester Stallone is surprisingly good in is role as Kit Latura the hero who must save a mixed bunch of people who find themselves trapped in a New York tunnel after an accident seals them in. The actual accident scene is awesome.

meow a remake of the poseidon adventure with tunnels basically. um a pretty lame movie with a predictable storyline and the classic hero story. it passes the time and everything but if your looking for citizen kane then maybe you should get that or something similar as this is just american trite, so nope not worthng buying in my humble opinion.
Simon on
Pretty tense and harrowing 1996 disaster film, as Stallone goes in after survivors who are trapped when the Holland tunnel is sealed off. Somewhat darkr than you might expect, with a number of characters beng killed off, and particularly chilling scene as one wounded member is left with a broken neck on their own as the others gor for safety. The ending is ridiculous, but then this isn't Syriana...
