I wasn't a big Dr Who fan but my partner is so I got it for her for Christmas. Now I'm hooked.
The set has 6 discs held in 2 X 3 disc covers which are normal DVD cover size inside a box which is then inside a slip cover again. It is important to know all this because I have bought Chinese box sets and they have just been a bunch of discs in a slip wallet inside a box with no way of preventing the discs from slipping around causing scratches. These discs however are firmly clipped in and wont get damaged unless they become unclipped from their holders.
It also comes with an 18 page booklet with a full run down of the complete series and a Forward by the writer Russell T Davies.
Disc 1 is 1 episode "Voyage of the Damned" Set on a ship that looks very much like the Titanic but in space, Where do they come up with these? This also features Kylie Minogue in a sort of poor little rich girl Kate Winslet character much like the movie 'Titanic' but with much more wit and a much better story line. The iceberg in this version is Earth, or to be more precise, England, or to be even more precise, Buckingham Palace.
Billy Piper keeps coming back although leaving the show in the last series (I think) and makes appearances as does Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones and other old DR Who sidekicks.
The other discs include all the other episodes including Fires of Pompeii and Turn left. 2 of my favorites. Also look out for all of the blubber in 'Adipose', it cracked me up.
Disc 6 is 'DR Who Confidential' so for all of those Dr who fans who felt they needed to record them all from Foxtel or Austar every time an episode finished, there is no need, they are all on here.
I haven't been able to watch the whole series yet but have loved it up till now and now have to begrudgingly admit to my partner I have become a fan. I am new to all of this Dr Who madness so any fanatics can correct me if I made any mistakes and I wont get upset.

You are going to love this! Dr Who's doctor David Tennant is AMAZING and I love Donna as well!
This is a funny, scary, wonderful Dr Who box set! All the shows are wonderful and watch 'The unicorn and the wasp' with Agatha Christie-it's so smart and wonderful!

Donna rocks! We were worried about her being Doctor's assistant at first (Did you see "Runaway bride"?!!) But she was so-o-o-o-o good! Funny, caring and not that thick after all.
Daleks are back (as usually), Martha Jones, Rose Tyler, another assistant from long time ago, K9 (for couple seconds), Captain Jack... have I mentioned Doctor's doughter yet? Oh, and someone Doctor is supposed to know very, VERY well, at least that's what she said...
The Darkness is coming!.. Hold on to your sofas!

Brilliant! I love series 4. All the episodes are fantastic
(except the FIRES OF POMPEA), and the last ones have alot of special effects. But it's really really sad at the end because the Doctor loses Rose and Donna forever. Apart from that the other episodes are brilliant. The confidentials are fantastic and it's also got David's video diary and a whole lot of other things. Some people like the christmas special and some people don't, so it's hard to say if you'll like it. The box set itself has a nice cover and some really good special effects as pictures. Donna, the Doctor's new companion, is bossy and makes sure the Doctor doesn't do anything silly. But she's also kind of funny. She makes me laugh sometimes, so I say this box set is well worth getting. It's one of my favourites, so if you love DOCTOR WHO go for it.

First off, the run time isn't really 977 minutes - in case that misinformation put you off. Shawshank Redemption was written as a short story by Steven King and here, it's been loyally adapted for the big (little now) screen. yes, it is one of those films where morgan freeman is the 'omniscient' narrator, but at least he's not god but a deeply flawed though inherently redeemable man. Tim Robbins, in my opinion, is at his best understated brilliance in this film. The reason i've taken time to write about Robbins and Freeman is because characterisation is as such as integral part of the story, and the fact that that the actors have done it well means that the film has incredibly depth. A lot of you are probably thinking 'characterisation' sounds boring, but well - we're talking steven king here so you won't be dissappointed by the oft gorey twists and turns the plot takes. Remember, it is set in a prison so expect bloodshed, flimsy(?) alliances, soap and corruption. Def. recommended.
