The English Patient is a 1996 drama that is an adaptation of the novel by Michael Ondaatje. The film was directed by Anthony Minghella and won nine Academy Awards including Best Picture.

It is a beautiful film... Ralph Fiennes is mesmeric as Count Laszlo de Almásy, and
Kristin Scott Thomas is stunning as Katharine Clifton. Juliette Binoche does a terrific job as the military nurse Hana... heartbreaking, moving... beautiful...

The English Patient is a true classic blending an outstanding love story set during the ugliness of wartime, where the main characters are inadvertently drawn into circumstances largely beyond their control, eventually leading to tragic outcomes for some but new personal discoveries and love for others.

The cinematography is simply wonderful as it brings to life the harsh deserts of Northern Africa; hustle and bustle of Cairo and the gentle green hills of Tuscany in Italy. The viewer becomes immersed in the diversity of these rich landscapes.

The cast are also perfect for their roles and keep the viewer engaged throughout the 161 minutes running time. Although a long film, it goes all too quickly.

This story is timeless and will probably remain a masterpiece for generations. Quite possibly the English Patient is as good as a movie gets. No wonder it won 9 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

this is the kind of film tha stays with you for a very long time. filled with lavish cinamatography and heart rendeing plot this film takes the viewer on a journey which leads them to question the ideals of society. the passionate beauty of egypt plays second only to the intensity of the affair ravaging the two prtagonists

the english patient is a very emotional and involving romance that has incredible landscapes and incredible performances by Ralph fieens, juliette Binoche and that guy naveen andrews who plays the iraqi guy on lost. not everyones cup of tea because of its slow pace and its content in general but one of minghellas best and worth a watch.

Sumptuously epic romantic melodrama set against a picturesque desert backdrop suffers from far too much epic sweep and not enough heart. It tells a story of supposedly intense passion but it is remarkably static. There is a strong cast, and it does look elegant but it has a hollow heart.
