Few plays have ever been transferred to the big screen with such success, and it's a must see.
The plot: It's the 70s, and America is on the verge of intervention in the Vietnam conflict. Claude, a cornfed, true blue American country boy leaves his parent's farm to join the army, and pays a visit to NY, where he meets a group of hippies. He is introduced to a world, a way of thinking and of living which are completely alien to him. At the same time he meets the woman of his dreams at the opposite end of the social scale, a rich young girl. As Claude becomes closer and closer to the group of free-thinkers, they will in turn show him the true nature of love and friendship, with... quite unexpected consequences.
