This is a beautiful series with a fantastic cast and really clever writing. I love the series dearly. This is medical drama, character driven soap and witty comedy packaged together in a really brilliant way.
However the authoring of these discs was done very, VERY badly. In between episodes is a short (and loud) ad about how piracy funds terrorism. I could stand if it was skippable, but it isn't, and I am the sort of person who likes having a series on DVD so I can watch a bunch of episodes at a time. After seeing about 4 of these in one night I was about ready to tear my hair out. You cannot skip from one chapter to the next because this just returns you to the chapter select screen, so if you pick the wrong episode by mistake you have to watch the terrorism/piracy ad again before you can try a different chapter.
I was really disappointed to see that this season was only in 4:3 apsect ratio, when the TV screening version is in widescreen. I read online that there has been a re-release of this series in widescreen but it was only released in the States in February of '09 so it may not be in NZ shops yet.
Extras on the discs are a real plus, especially the casting session with Hugh Laurie. Unfortunately it's still not enough to make me want to collect more of this series on DVD.
