Jamie Oliver heads to Italy in his camper van to regain his passion for cooking. Jamie maps out a journey to rediscover what inspired his love of food in the first place. He's hoping that going back to basics, living off the land, meeting the locals and cooking up some traditional Italian food in his own style will be just what he needs.
What will the Italians make of him, and can he and his food cut the mostardo in the Italian's backyard? From Sicily to Puglia to the mountain region of Le Marche, to the beautiful Amalfi Coast and lots of places in between, he packed in as much as he could and met so many friendly people - from lovely families who shared their recipes, to the market traders who gave him tips on how to cook their produce.
Jamie's journey takes him off the beaten track to discover people who make up the real' Italy.

This series documents Jamie's travels around Italy in his VW van, a trip in celebration of his 30th birthday, and in pursuit of the true Italy from a food perspective. Jamie comes up against many challenges, not least the regional parochialism of the Italian people (they don't see the point of Janie's elaboration of their traditional dishes), the loss of age-old customs (Monks eating frozen dinners when they have a centuries-old garden outside), and his van breaking down. Jamie is likeable - lovable- as always, in his unquenchable passion, and undinting enthusiasm for food and the people who cook it. Truly enjoyable.

Love or loathe him, you can't deny Jamie's enthusiasm, devotion to good food, and preparation skill. This DVD is , unlike some celebrity chef films, more about the food, country, and people of Italy than about Jamie. It is well produced and photographed, and contains some excellent recipes.
