Academy Award winning director Robert Redford (A River Runs Through It, The Horse Whisperer) brings to life the story of Rannulph Junuh, (Matt Damon - The Talented Mr Ripley, Saving Private Ryan), a promising young golfer who loses his swing after he experiences the harrowing frontlines of war. Once considered Savannah's greatest sportsman and favourite celebrity, Junnuh had won the heart of the town's prettiest heiress, Adele Invergordon (Charlize Theron - Men of Honour, Devil's Advocate). But when he returned from war, he was a defeated man, giving up both golf and Adele for the sake of alcohol. When Junuh is given a chance to redeem himself by competing in a celebrity golf tournament, he must first regain his swing and his self-respect. It will take a miracle, in the form of a mysterious caddy named Bagger Vance (Will Smith - Wild wIld West, Men In Black), for Junuh to get his game back as well as his life.

I think this is not mystical mumbo jumbo. The 'mumbo jumbo' is actually the zone that elite athletes, musicians put themselves into in order to reach peak-performance. This well researched and scientifically proven. The very powerful messages are based on reality.
Great movie!

I didn't really buy this film. It was well made (Robert Redford is a good director) and well acted, but the story, as portrayed here, was too hokey and had a little bit too much mystical mumbo jumbo in it for my liking. Though based loosely on a true story, it feels too much a film deliberately made to be profound and "heavenly". Okay for those who like that sort of thing.
