Frank Capra's formula is monotonously repeated across his oeuvre, and this film is no exception. Idealistic "little guy" comes up against corrupt fat-cats who want to exploit the American people, he's disillusioned, but then the American spirit of patriotism and community heartwarmingly shines through. Swelling music, actor with tear-filled eyes--the end. Yawn. Barbara Stanwyck is slick and fiesty and generally her awesome self, Gary Cooper is his dull taciturn self. But they can't make this film less corny or boring.
