After all, to make his dream of becoming King of the Pirates come true, Luffy needs a good crew. However, when he and Koby dock at the Navy base where Zolos been captured, they have to get by the tyrannical Captain Morgan to spring him loose! An Unlikely Pair The Pirate and the Pirate Hunter At first, Zolo thinks Luffy is a bit crazy for asking him, a pirate-hunter, to be part of his pirate crew, but after realizing how determined Luffy is in his cause, he agrees to join the team. And when Zolo helps defeat Morgan, he proves to be the master swordsman Luffy hoped he was. Now, with Captain Morgan defeated, the Navy town he once ruled finally has their freedom back. But as thankful as they are, they order Luffy to leaveafter all, pirates and the Navy dont mix. So Zolo and Luffy set sail for the Grand Line leaving Koby behind to start a career in the Navy. Synopsis - One Piece: Volume 2 (1999) The Passing of the Hat In this flashback episode, Luffy is a child hanging out with the pirate he admires more than anyone: Red Shanks. But as Luffy, Shanks and his pirate crew try to enjoy some down time in town, a gang of ruthless bandits pick a fight. Young Luffy does his best to stand up to the bandits, but in the end, he has to be saved by Shanks. Regardless, Shanks is so touched by Luffys show of courage he entrusts him with his precious straw hat. In turn, Luffy promises to Shanks that one day he will become the King of the Pirates. The Circus Comes to Town Expert thief Nami may have bitten off more than she can chew when she stole a map of the Grand Line that belonged to the deranged Captain Buggy the Clown. But when Nami runs into Luffy, she convinces Buggy that he was the one responsible, landing Luffy in a cage and allowing herself the freedom to steal back the map that Buggy repossessed. But when Buggy orders Nami to fire a cannon at the caged Luffy, she fires instead at Buggys men inciting a large battle where we discover that like Luffy, Buggy has powers from a Cursed Fruit, the power to disassemble his body at will. Zolo takes Buggy on but how can a swordsman slice up what's already in pieces. The Beast Breaker With Zolo wounded and Luffy locked in a cage, chances for escape from Buggy the Clown and his crew seem slim. That is, until they find Chouchou, a determined dog that is always guarding his masters pet shop. An old man explains to Luffy that the shop is all thats left of Chouchous loving master and that hes protecting his special place. Then suddenly, one of Buggy's minions, Mohji the Beast Breaker, appears riding on a giant lion. Mohji and the lion tease little Chouchou and then smash his shop to pieces. Chouchou bravely wages battle against the giant lion controlled by Mohji, and when Luffys cage accidentally opens up, he uses his super stretchy powers to help out. Synopsis One Piece Volume 3 (1999) Luffy, Zolo and Nami realize their tiny boats will be no match for the pirates they are sure to meet in their search for treasure. When they stop at a small town to look for a better ship, they meet a strange boy known for telling tall tales. Luffy decides to recruit him for their crew, but can this joker be trusted.
