A young boy (Fred Savage), bedridden with the flu, is less than thrilled when his grandfather (Peter Falk) arrives to read him the Princess Bride - a fairytale adventure passed on by grandfathers and fathers to their sons and grandsons, generation after generation.

As this tale of true love unfolds, the boy is drawn into the wonders of the fairytale kingdom of Florin, the adventures of Buttercup (Robin Wright) (the most beautiful woman in the world) and Westley (Cary Elwes) (the man she loves). With an evil prince, three almost-evil henchmen, some killer rats, long lost loves returning from the dead, and a bit of torture, you couldn't possibly call THIS a kissing book!

The Princess Bride has been a childhood favourite of mine, and nothing will ever take away its appeal for me. It has nothing to do with fantastic acting, big special effects or flashy hollywood style, and everything to do with just being a good, wholesome, entertaining film that the whole family can enjoy.

I had never seen this movie until recently. One of those movies that everyone harps on about how great it is.
Maybe had I watched it in my youth I would have enjoyed it. I liked Willow and Legend and other similar movies of the era, but I didn't get into the Princess Bride. So be warned if you haven't seen it, don't go in with high hopes.. you may just be disappointed.

I have friends who can recite this movie verbatim. It's just that good. Really.
This movie has it all, love, adventure, swords, pirates, wicked rulers, hidden chambers, giant rats, tiny Sicilians, and some of the best lines ever written: My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
(And watch out for Billy Crystal as Miracle Max!)

this is such an awesome movie! really one of those iconic movies of the 80s, that everyone really loves, as it is timeless and filled with drama, action, etc, so you cant help but love it. this is different to any other movie out there, with its different type of dialogue, and funny one liners. this is a real must watch!

I absolutely love this movie! It is sooo great! Often 80s films are cult classics and this is definitely a classic! Full of romance, much humour, quirky characters, a dashin Westley, beautiful Buttercup and revolting Humperdinck makes for a great film :) Lots of action too and funny action starring Andrew the Giant! Good clean fun :)

This is a brilliant movie. Even if I dare say it better than the book! A great achievement in itself. The acting is great. The storyline even better. The characters are hillarious. Cary Elwes is very dashing and I absolutely loved the Spaniard. This film is an absolute classic and a must for all dvd collections.

I love this movie, it's so funny, a classic and a legend that everyone knows and loves. All of the ideas in this movie are great, and totally original. There isn't many movies that can top The Princess Bride. A wonderful movie for most ages, and a movie that can be watched over and over and get better each time.

A real classic, this movie will take you on the journey of an unlikely couple whose love will conquer any obstacles they face. Along the way they are joined by some of the best characters found in any movie. This film will keep young and old enthralled!!

i remember watching this as a young girl, and i love it as much now as i did then, a movie for all ages. my mum especially loved the spaniard, she made up her own saying instead of"my name is iniga montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!" she used to say(in the swedish chef voice)"my name is ingas svenson, you ate my struddle, prepare to die!".
