If you don't like The Rock, Con-Air, Independence Day, Die Hard, or Rambo don't bother seeing this movie. Just stick to your Brokeback Mountain instead and don't complain that Transformers lacks substance. It's a movie based off of a line of Hasbro action figures and 80's cartoon; it's not supposed to have any substance. You have to take this movie for what it is. It's a movie about giant alien robots that turn into cars, trucks, planes, and tanks engaged in gallactic warfare. Sure, it's corny, but if you can unleash the five year old inside yourself it's a very rewarding movie viewing experience.
So let's break it down. The plot is light, the characters don't have much development, and there are no gay cowboys in this movie. Sounds like a winner to me.
We came to see robots fight, and robots fighting is what we get. The opening sequence delivers an attack on a military base, we get a couple battles mid film, and the last 20-30 minutes of the movie is total robot armageddon.
The only complaint I have with the action sequences was there was too much going on. At times we had massive battles on screen. When that happened I could feel my brain melting, but then again that's what a good action movie should do.
Despite any flaws of this film it was worth the price of admission. Transformers had the audience on it's feet cheering at the closing credits, and very few movies do that these days. Do yourself a favor. See this movie!
