Wild South - Volume 2 [Region 4]

New or Used: $21.90
As a world leader in factual documentary making, NHNZ has produced award winning programmes that have enthralled, engaged and entertained hundreds of millions of viewers in over 200 countries for more than three decades.

These highly acclaimed programmes have been redigitised and made available on DVD for the first time. The second volume in the Wild South series features:

UP WITH THE BIRDS: Boobies, noddies, tropic-birds, parakeets and many other bird species unknown on the New Zealand mainland are now the only residents on treeless Macauley Island in the Kermadec Group. But that wasn't always the case in this little bit of the tropics belonging to New Zealand. The film moves through a day with the various nesting colonies and concludes that Macauley Island, which is emerging from a period of severe environmental stress, should now be left to the birds.

THE FIRSTBORN: A fur seal pup learns about life in its first few months on Tausaka Island, a large breeding rookery off the coast of New Zealand's isolated southwest coast. This is a story of seasonal rhythm and renewal, as we capture magical moments of discovery during a fur seal pup's momentous first three months of life.

ISLAND EATEN BY RATS: In the early 1960's Big South Cape, an island off Steward Island, received a group of unwelcome visitors. Their presence spelt disaster for the local ecology and in particular, animals unaccustomed to defending themselves against such single-minded and cunning predators. It also prompted an impassioned rescue attempt to save one very special bird ? the South Island Saddleback.

THE MANGROVES: Join us for a memorable journey through Northland's oft-maligned mangrove swamp. Gain a new perspective on this ecosystem, as a place of hidden beauty that is also a unique habitat for a surprising array of fascinating creatures.

SNARES ? GIFT OF THE SEA: The Snares Islands, south west of Stewart Island, have managed to avoid the unwanted attention of man for centuries. And staying under the radar has proved immensely beneficial to the island's unique wildlife. Today, this remarkable wildlife treasury provides an idyllic island home for millions of muttonbirds, thousands of penguins, and three kinds of land bird found nowhere else in the world.
