  • As a founding member of Seattle legends Mother Love Bone (which by a twist of fate became Pearl Jam), Stone Gossard is a seasoned guitarist and composer. Certainly better late than never, Gossard follows suit with his moonlighting musical cohorts, tentatively moving to center stage with BAYLEAF. Gossard takes us with him through a very personal set of eclectic songs fusing a wide palette of influences, from the hints of The Doors snuck into "Fits" and "Bore Me" to the Neil Young-meets-gospel tinkering of "Every Family." Contributing vocals to some of the set's most compelling cuts is Green Apple Quick Step's Ty Wilman, another prodigal Seattle son. Songs such as "Pigeon" and the title track find Gossard staying close to the comforts of Pearl Jam territory and it's easy to imagine them cropping up in one of that band's sets. The battling metaphors and lo-fi production of BAYLEAF show Stone Gossard stretching just enough to be interesting and leave you looking forward to more solo efforts.
