  • Produced by John Rich (of Big & Rich fame), Shannon Brown's debut, CORN FED, marks the emergence of a significant country artist. On this strong 2006 album, Brown comes across as a hybrid of Shania Twain and Gretchen Wilson. While many tunes feature a slick, rock-tinged Nashville sound, Brown also stays true to her rural Iowa roots on songs like the twangy title track and the thoughtful "Small Town Girl."
  • Although Brown's hearty vocals are showcased throughout the record, Rich's genre-bending presence is also strongly felt, particularly on the straight-talking anthem "High Horses," which nods to Johnny Cash and Bob Marley with equal reverence. Other highlights include the emotional ballad "Turn to Me" and the funky dance number "Good Ole Days." A dynamic first outing that mixes fun with introspection and even fiddles with (gulp...) disco beats, CORN FED reveals that Rich knows how to keep a winning streak going and that Brown definitely knows her way around a country tune.
