Leonard Cohen is one of the greatest musical poets of our time - equivelent to Bob Dylan. His music is so dark and honest and true and exquisite and is uncomparable to anybody who came before him, of course many have drawn from the Cohen mould he established since he began. He has written such classic songs as 'So Long Marianne', 'Bird on a Wire', 'Hallelujah', 'Famous Blue Raincoat', 'Everybody Knows' and 'Dance Me to the End of Love'. "Never heard of those", you say - yes you have!
This double-CD collection of his music over the years is a great start for anybody starting to listen to his music. Even if you've never heard his music - go out and buy this album - you will NOT regret it. Cohen picked the choices from this CD himself, so there are a few songs that are missing from his earlier days (perhaps he was feeling a little self-conscious) but it still a great collection that I listen to almost every day! His songs have not dated and do not become repetitive.
