- Pulp's breakthrough album arrived after an unbelievably long haul, and then Jarvis Cocker was suddenly sharing front pages of music magazines with Liam and Damon. Here, the songs explored now-familiar Pulp territory, social class, seedy sexual encounters, voyeurism ('Babies'), bad sex ('you bought a toy that can reach the places he never goes'), good sex, and lots more sex, all blessed with Cocker's humorous, touching and, conversely, often innocent lyrical observations. Capable of writing almost unbearably tender love songs and laments for wasted lives ('your hair is a mess and your eyes are just holes in your face'), Cocker's honesty and insight were distilled to perfection in the wonderful 'Do You Remember The First Time'.
Professional ReviewsUncut (p.98) - 5 stars out of 5 -- "HIS 'N' HERS maps out the fully formed extent of Pulp's fictions and still sounds astonishingly fresh."
Alternative Press (11/94, p.97) - "...The arrangements have an almost orchestral sweep and melody that's out of step with most of today's music..."
Melody Maker (4/9/94, p.31) - "...Pulp are clever, knowing, ritzy and chintzy, and tremendously entertaining..."
Melody Maker (8/31/96, p.43) - Recommended
NME (Magazine) (12/24/94, p.22) - Ranked #19 in NME's list of the 'Top 50 Albums Of 1994.'
