For their first new album in nine years, Jefferson Starship taps into its folk roots, turning out an acoustic album consisting mostly of covers of folk classics. Tackling tunes by great '60s singer/songwriters like Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, and Richard Farina, as well as more traditional folk fare, the Starship reminds us that folk-rock's been part of their agenda since the Airplane days. Original Airplaners Paul Kantner, Jack Casady, and Marty Balin are on hand for the journey, with a few different female vocalists gamely following in Grace Slick's imposing footsteps.
