There seems to be no limit to the amount of superb music John Zorn creates, and the 10th volume of Masada's THE BOOK OF ANGELS is another testament to the fact. Zorn's Masada string trio is joined here by drummer Joey Baron, percussionist Cyro Baptista, and guitarist Marc Ribot to form a sextet of stunning sensitivity, range, and full-throttle creativity. Like all of Masada's work, the music draws heavily on Jewish musical traditions, but since it's Zorn the listener can also count on elements of 20th-century classical, Ennio Morricone-style film music, free jazz, and all manner of curveballs. Beautiful, complex, and exquisitely executed, LUCIFER: BOOK OF ANGELS VOLUME 10 is seriously creative music for seriously creative listeners.
