  • Usually, these days, when a soundtrack album is subtitled, "Music from the Motion Picture," it's a signal that it contains songs featured in the movie, but not the instrumental score, which is indicated by the subtitle, "Original Motion Picture Soundtrack." But just to be confusing, this album of Randy Newman's score to The Paper says it contains "Music from the Motion Picture." The music will be familiar to anyone who knows Newman's work, with its sweet strings, ragtime feel, and strong melodies. And it does conclude with a song, "Make Up Your Mind," on which Newman duets with Alex Brown. ~ William Ruhlmann
