Performer Notes
  • This 10-track, 1977 release by U.K. progressive rockers Camel features "First Light," "Tell Me," and "One Of These Days I'll Go."
  • Personnel: Andy Latimer (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, flute, panpipes, mini-Moog synthesizer, string synthesizer, glockenspiel, fretless bass); Richard Sinclair (vocals); Toots Hibbert (harp); Martin Drover (trumpet, flugelhorn); Malcolm Griffiths (trombone); Peter Bardens (Clavinet, organ, keyboards); Brian Eno (keyboards, synthesizer, mini-Moog synthesizer, bells); Andy Ward (drums, percussion, background vocals).
  • Audio Remasterers: Anthony Hawkins; Bernie Grundman.
  • Photographer: Trevor Rogers.
  • The band's fifth release, Rain Dances is Camel at its best, offering the most consistent and representative package in their saga. The addition of Caravan-cofounder Richard Sinclair proves profitable, as do a few colorist touches by Brian Eno on "Elke." Mel Collins' woodwinds are among the highlights, especially on "Tell Me" and the title track. From beginning to end, this project flows gracefully. ~ Matthew Plichta
Professional Reviews
Record Collector (magazine) (p.80) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "RAIN DANCES saw the band exploring rockier soundscapes....The emphasis remains on instrumental canvases..."
