  • Did they actually write the songs, each of which is credited to the Spice Girls plus a couple of songwriting pros? Do Posh and Ginger actually sing on them? Do you really care? In perfect bubblegum form, the Spice Girls capitalize on their moment by releasing their second album in nine months, aping their idols (Madonna, Boy George, the Supremes) even better than they did on the first one, and separating the filler you were expecting anyway with a couple of monster singles you never could have predicted.
  • The bubbly Motown dance tune "Stop" is either the Supremes filtered through the Archies or Culture Club filtered through St. Etienne--either way, a great lost pop melody hit upside the head by a dollop of new-wave kitsch. "Spice Up Your Life" is the requisite follow-up to "Wannabe," except that it doesn't sound that much like it, and its slinky, Latin-ized beat and fast sing-song rapping are nearly irresistible. Will they be around in another nine months? Do you really need an Andrews-Sisters-in-a-strip-club take on Madonna's "Vogue" ("Lady Is a Vamp")? Do you even care?

Professional Reviews
Rolling Stone (12/11/97, pp.75-76) - 3 Stars (out of 5) - "...The production throughout is a cunning rehash of hip-hop and pop's well-made music to Stairmaster to, and by that standard the whole thing works rather well..."

Melody Maker (12/20-27/97, pp.66-67) - Ranked #37 on Melody Maker's list of 1997's "Albums Of The Year."

Melody Maker (11/8/97, p.51) - "...inspired combination of a zeitgeist-grabbing image and soul-tinging songs that unexpectedly came alive when a bolt of lightning--or in this case fame--caused the beast to start thinking for itself....equal parts retro cool and mainstream gloss..."

This is the follow up to the SPice Girls other successful album, and in my opinion it is just as good as the first one! It has so many wicked tracks on it that have such a sweet beat to them, such as "Spice Up Your Life" and "Move Over" both of which are personal faves. This is such a must own CD for pop fans, really cool happy girl pop at its best!
Your hot jess Master on
This a fantastic cd by a brilliant girl band. th spice girls were one of the defining bands of the 90's after they sky rocketed to international super stardom. this cd features a lot of their best work such as "stop" and "spice up your life". A great cd, and a must have for any spice girls fan!

WICKED cd from the AMAZING spice girls, who really had the music market cornered back in the day, with their mix of dirtyish pop and sexy antics. some really standout hits on this must own album, siuch as spice up your life (great start to the album) and stop, whch was a number one hit. must own fpr any fan.
Mike McKenzie on
There is a reason the spice grils crashed and burned, they got bad fast, their music just didnt have what it took to last like bands like S club 7 and 5ive, this had apauling hts like viva forever, they were pushing to make money with books and videos and a movie, ewwww
Dale Henry on
not as good as their 1st album but still an enjoyable listen. fab songs from this re "spice up your life", "stop" and "Viva Forver". The soundtrack was a hell of alot better than the movie (gawd wasn't it awful lol). Spice Girls used to be so cool back then, even I jumped on the Spice Rack lol. There were dolls, chupa chups and even impulse with their pics on it! God it brings back so many memories....damn, now I have that song "Saturday Night Diva's" stuck in my head....."Get down get deeper and down get down get deeper and down....." Great listen!
