Based upon Tom Clancy’s international best-seller Harrison Ford stars as Jack Ryan in this explosive thriller . Jack Ryan has traveled to London to vacation with his wife and child and is caught in the middle of a terrorist attack on a member of the Royal Family. Ryan helps to thwart assailants and becomes a marked for death by a brother of the terrorist.
I know it's only a Hollywood movie. And the book it's based upon is fiction and hardly Tolstoy at that.
But I can't help wondering if it's plausible that even a militaristic Republican would so eagerly accept a title from the British Royal family. After all, these would be direct descendants of people who probably ran Ryan's own ancestors out of their homeland!
Also, the incredibly irritating pub scene portrays Irish-Americans (yet again) as dim-witted, belligerent drunks who simply adore imbecilic sing-alongs about "Irish laddies."
Understood that the villains are supposed to be psychos and very hissable they are, too. But couldn't the writers have avoided perpetuating so many narrow and simplistic cliches?
Patriot Games is pretty much just your average action thriler. nothing special about it but it manages to entertain you for an hour or two. its not the sort of movie that you would go out of your way to see again. see this if you are a harrison ford fan or are easily pleased when it comes to films.
Jack Ryan tries to stop an IRA fringe group from carrying out an assassination attempt on English royals and is subsequently brought back into the CIA in order to save his now threatened family. its an alright movie....the novel by tom clancy is heaps, heaps heaps betterm but its still okay..
yep a very lame thriller starring harrison ford as the hero of the film. um i dont know i just think harrison ford cant actually act and also i never have really liked anything either written by tom clancy or any movie that has been made from any of his books. this is ok i guess i can see its appeal but for me its just one cliche after another in a very boring film.
Harrison Ford takes over from Alec Baldwin as Tom Clancey's man Jack Ryan. Ryan tops a kidnapping/assassination(?) attempt on a member of the royal family by some crazy IRA off-shoot, and invites the psychotic wrath of Sean Bean against his own family. Pretty good, and along with Clear and Present Danger, some good novel-to-film fare...
Harrison Ford reprises his role as CIA analyst Jack Ryan in this movie based on the popular spy novel by author Tom Clancy. Jack Ryan and his wife [played by Anne Archer] and daughter are holidaying in London when Ryan foils an attempted and brazen kidnapping of a member of the Royal family. In the process, Jack shoots down a young terrorist in the crossfire. The dead terrorist's brother, played by Sean Bean vows vengeance against Ryan and Ryan's family is put in subsequent and deadly danger from then on. Some spectacular action pieces ensue including a highway car chase, an assault on a terrorist camp and a gripping finale as the terrorists launch an assault on Ryan's family home on the coast itself.
Dreadful thriller about an CIA agent in London helping to save the royal family from Irish terrorists. Its the kind of smug and smarmy Hollywood movie with this perfect family who save the world. Yeah right, its enough to get you rooting for the unfortunate terrorists who are demonised. Not exciting, not interesting and not at all intelligent.
