He belonged to the Order of the Minorites and was famous as “Doctor Irrefragibilis” on account of his Universae Theologiae Summa, which was held in high esteem by the Pope, but was adversely criticized by Roger Bacon. It may be remarked that in the year of Hales's death the Abbey of Hayles (Glos.) was founded.
