Jorn Lier Horst was born in 1970, in Bamble, Telemark, Norway. He has worked as a policeman in Larvik since 1995. His debut novel in 2004, Key Witness, was based on a true murder story. The William Wisting novel series - Key Witness , Goodbye, Felicia , When the Sea Calms, The Only One, and The Night Man - has been extremely successful in his native Norway as well as Germany and the Netherlands. Dregs, his first book published in English, has sold well in both the UK and North America.
‘One of the best Scandinavian crime novels I’ve read.’
*Mrs Peabody Investigates*
‘Gripping and well executed.’
*The Herald*
‘An immaculately plotted, beautifully structured novel, complex and
full of tension.’
*Crime Time*
‘Written from the viewpoint of a recently serving police officer,
this book's authenticity gives a true flavour of the search for a
dangerous criminal.’
*Crime Squad*
‘Jorn Lier Horst is a phenomenal new voice in Nordic Noir. His
handling of landscape and location matches that of Henning Mankell.
The narrative concern with digital technology is on a par with
Stieg Larsson. What makes Lier Horst distinctive is his haunting
ability to find the feasible in the psychopathic.’
*Steve Peacock*
‘Urban rather than natural settings are the stamping grounds of
Jorn Lier Horst, whose Drges (his first novel to be published in
English) is immensely impressive. The writer's career as a police
chief has supplied a key ingredient for the crime fiction form:
credibility.’
*Barry Forshaw, Nordic Noir and Euro Noir*
‘An original, thrilling novel about a policeman's struggle on the
edge between disaster and restoration of justice.’
*The Martin Beck Award, 2014 given by the Swedish Crime Writers'
Academy for the best crime novel in translation.*
