About the Author

Stella Harding has been making baskets since 2001. Growing, gathering and making in an urban context, without a garden of one's own, is a passion she is keen to share with others. Stella has exhibited her basketry widely across Europe, and most recently at the Barbican Library and Metre Square Gallery in London. Shane Waltener regularly exhibits internationally. Recent projects include Love Lace, Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Design Festival, 2011; Sweet Celebrations, The Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre, Stratford-Upon-Avon, 2011, and Taking Time: Craft and the Slow Revolution, Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery and touring, 2009-11.

Good-looking, good-natured ... I feel and hope this book goes some way to introduce new makers to the basic techniques and, once they are understood and mastered they, and experienced makers, might be encouraged to think about the more contemporary idea of using basketry for artist expression ... This book wants us to learn, try this at home and most of all, go and play.
