Okay, this is the soundtrack to a kids' cartoon about cute little imaginary animals, so right away you know no one is ever going to confuse it with THE CRITIQUE OF PURE REASON or the Beatles' WHITE ALBUM. That said, however, this is a pretty good snapshot of the end-of-the-millennium pop moment. The stylistic mix here ranges from slick R&B ballads to a sort of hip-hop lite, with a slight detour into pop reggae (courtesy of teen heart-throb Britney Spears) and current girl-group pop (M2M, who sound like Chipmunks on helium). Believe it or not, most of this stuff is far more adult-friendly than the movie it's based on.
