West Australian K A Bedford is author of several books. All have either won or been shortlisted for an Aurealis Award. Bedford's latest novel, Time Machines Repaired While-U-Wait, is another winner. As the title suggests, the story revolves around time travel, but has the added excitement of a murder, plus there's a fair amount of humour thrown in. Set in a futuristic Perth, we are introduced to Aloysius 'Spider' Webb, ex-cop, now time machine mechanic. Spider's life is far from idyllic. He's separated from his wife, he seethes over circumstances that forced him out of his past career, and now struggles with his boss and the 'sameness' of repairing time machines. Yet, his life becomes anything but predictable when a routine repair job on a time machine uncovers a murder. Spider is spiralled into a frenzy of timelines, both futuristic and from the past, where he meets Himself and must make choices which will affect The End Of Time. I enjoyed this fast-paced, humorous novel, which hooked me from page one. Readers who are lovers of sci-fi and time travel will obviously love this, but those readers with a penchant for mystery and action will enjoy it too. (See interview page 35.)
