Serif Mardin recently retired from the School of International Service at The American University. He has been a fellow at St. Anthony's College at Oxford as well as a visiting professor at Columbia, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris), Princeton University, the University of California at Berkeley, and UCLA.
