About the Author

Joy Standeven earned her DPhil at the University of Sussex. Formerly a Principal Lecturer, she was also a Division Coordinator for Leisure and Recreation Studies at the University of Brighton between 1987 and 1994. As a recreational sport tourist, she has participated in sport activities in 60 countries on four continents. She has researched sport tourism for many years and has lectured extensively worldwide. Standeven conducts ongoing research and consulting through her private consultancy.

Paul De Knop, PhD, is a professor in the Faculty of Physical Education at Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Brussels, Belgium, and in the Leisure Studies Department at the University of Brabant in Tilburg, Netherlands. His articles on sport tourism have appeared in such prestigious publications as the Journal of the World Leisure and Recreation Association and the European Journal of Sport Management.
